Tongi, Dec 19 (V7N) — A fire broke out at a cotton godown in the Cherag Ali area of Tongi early Wednesday, spreading to nearby houses before being brought under control after an hour of effort.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started suddenly around 1 am, quickly engulfing the godown and several adjacent houses. Local residents alerted the authorities, and three units of the Tongi Fire Service promptly responded to the scene.

After an intense operation, firefighters managed to control the blaze. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. However, the cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are yet to be determined.

Residents of the area expressed concerns over the safety of nearby godowns and called for better fire safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the damages in the coming days.
