Dhaka, Oct 04 (V7N) – Joint forces have arrested two individuals in connection with the Alif Paribahan bus fire and shooting incident in Senpara, Mirpur, the capital. The arrests were confirmed in a release on Saturday afternoon.
The two arrested are Nesar and Dipu, while the main accused, Pintu of the Gangchil Bahini, remains at large.
Investigations suggest the incident was linked to extortion demands. Nesar and members of Pintu’s group allegedly demanded a large sum from the bus owner over the past six months. When the demands were not met, the bus was set on fire after point-blank shooting. Police also recovered an audio recording of the extortion.
On Friday morning, the attackers stopped the bus, forced passengers and staff off the vehicle, beat the staff, and then set the bus ablaze. Police say the operation to apprehend Pintu and other gang members is ongoing.
