Mongla, Nov 08 (V7N) — Two people were killed and seven others injured after a passenger bus overturned into a roadside ditch following a collision with several motorcycles on the Mongla-Khulna Highway near Tetulia Bridge on Friday afternoon.
According to Senior Station Officer Md. Emran Hossain of the Mongla EPZ Fire Service Unit, the accident occurred around 1 p.m. when a Mongla-bound passenger bus traveling toward Khulna collided head-on with seven motorcycles coming from the opposite direction. In an attempt to avoid the crash, the bus driver applied a hard brake, causing the vehicle to lose control and overturn into a nearby ditch.
Two bus passengers died on the spot, while seven others — including both bus and motorcycle riders — sustained serious injuries. Rescue teams from the fire service rushed to the scene and transported the injured to the nearby Jhonjhonia Hospital for treatment.
Officer Emran Hossain said the motorcyclists were tourists heading to Mongla to visit the Sundarbans. The identities of the deceased and injured were not immediately confirmed, but authorities are working to identify them.
Local police and fire service personnel have cleared the area to restore traffic flow, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
