A cargo ship loaded with coal sank in the Bhairab river at Abhaynagar in Jessore. The accident took place on Saturday night when MV Sakib Biva-2 burst its bottom in Nawapara area.  There were about 685 metric tons of coal in the ship when it sank. 
 
The importing company M/s JHM Group imported that coal from Indonesia and brought it to the port in Nawapara of Abhaynagar Upazila. Sources of the importing company said that these coals from Indonesia were first brought to Harbaria in Mongla port by big ships.  From there, around 685 MT of coal was lifted in the small cargo ship MV Saqib Viva-2.  
 
The cargo ship left for Nawapara last Friday morning.  The ship reached the Bhairab river ghat in Nawapara Nonaghat area of ​​Abhaynagar upazila on Saturday night.  The ship was waiting to anchor.  The river was at low tide around 10:30 pm.
 
Master of MV Saqib Viva-2 burst into the water.  Bellal Hossain said that the ship sank near Nawapara Nonaghat.  The river was at low tide around 10:30 pm.  At that time the cargo ship was turning to anchor at the wharf.  Suddenly the bottom of the ship hit hard with the hard ground of the river.  
 
The bottom of the ship burst.  Then the water started rising in the ship.  The ship sank around 11:30 pm.  The bottom floor of the ship is completely submerged.  But the upper deck of the ship is above water.  A total of 11 people including the master, coxswain were on board when the ship sank.  
 
Everyone swam to the shore.  At that time there was coal worth about 1 crore 12 lakh rupees in the ship. Rahul Dev Biswas, logistics manager of the importing company M/s JHM Group said, the process of coal recovery has been started.  Coal recovery work will be started from Monday.  But what is the extent of the damage?  It will be understood when the rescue is over.
