Pabna, June 24,(V7N) - In a tragic incident, three friends, including two brothers, drowned while swimming in the Padma River in Pabna Sadar Upazila.
 
The incident occurred around 2 PM on Monday (June 24) in the Padma River at Bhadhuria Dangi in Char Tarapur Union of the upazila.
 
The deceased are Sabbir Hossain (14), an eighth-grade student of Nutan Bazar High School, and Siam Hossain (10), a third-grade student of Gohailbari Government Primary School, both sons of Alal Pramanik from Nutan Gohailbari area in Char Tarapur Union. The third victim is Nur Hossain (10), a third-grade student of Kanchipara Primary School, and son of Islam Sardar from Atghariapara village in the same union.
 
According to locals, a few children were hanging an Argentina flag on a mango tree near their home around 2 PM. When advised against doing so due to the heat, they came down and went to the river to bathe. Locals, upon hearing the news, rushed to the scene and rescued one child alive. The other three were found dead. They reported that the older brother, Sabbir, died while trying to save the two younger ones.
 
Locals further explained that the children stood on sand piles of varying heights, which collapsed quickly, causing them to drown.
 
The victims were taken to Pabna General Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
 
Meanwhile, the deaths of the three children have cast a pall of mourning over the area.
 
Alal Hossain, the father of the two deceased boys, told Voice Seven News, "How will I live now? I am utterly destitute. Both my sons have left this world at the same time. It is impossible for a father to accept such a death."
 
Mostafizur Rahman Babu, the UP member of Ward No. 6 of Char Tarapur Union Parishad, told Voice7 News, "Four friends went to bathe in the Padma River. While one was saved, three could not be rescued. The entire village is in shock at the death of three children within a few minutes."
 
Rowshan Ali, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident to Voice7 News, saying, "Three children died while bathing together. Upon receiving the information, police visited the scene."
