On January 24, at around midnight, a residence in the Baghpara region under the Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj district experienced a gas leak, resulting in a blast that killed two severely injured ladies at the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

Six persons in all were burned in the explosion.

Sukhi Akhtar, 30, her daughter Sadia Akhtar, 11, her sister Jannati Akhtar, 16, her brother Arif Hawlader, 21, her cousin Rahima Akhtar, 35, and Rahima's daughter Ritu, 14, were among the injured parties.

Rahima and Jannati passed away at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute on Monday early morning, respectively, according to resident physician Dr. Tarikul Islam.

He said that of the incident, Rahima suffered burns to 45 percent of her body and Jannati to 15 percent.

Following the incident, they were admitted to the institute's Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," he said.
