Dhaka, Oct 09 (V7N): Professor Dr. Mobasser Monem, a faculty member of the Department of Public Administration at the University of Dhaka, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC).

The Ministry of Public Administration issued the announcement in a notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Nilufa Yasmin on Wednesday, following the president's directive.

According to the notification, Dr. Mobasser will serve as the PSC chairman under Article 139(1) of the Constitution. He will hold the position for a five-year term or until he turns 65, whichever comes first.

Dr. Mobasser Monem succeeds Md Sohorab Hossain, who resigned as PSC chairman along with 12 other members on Tuesday. Sohorab had taken office in September 2020 but stepped down a year before completing his term amidst calls for the entire commission’s resignation following the fall of the Awami League government.

Per the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Act of 2023, the commission consists of a chairman and between six and 20 members.

Dr. Mobasser Monem holds a PhD from the University of London and has completed post-doctoral research at Sussex University and the University of Heidelberg. His research expertise spans governance, public sector innovation, and comparative public policy.

An accomplished academic, Dr. Mobasser has authored two books, contributed to numerous publications, and published over 100 scholarly articles and technical reports, with many appearing in prestigious international journals. He has also served as a consultant for international organizations, significantly impacting public sector management and development in Bangladesh.
