Dhaka, Oct 12 (V7N): Md Nahid Islam, Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, announced on Saturday that media outlets involved in collaborating with the fascist government, particularly regarding the anti-discrimination student movement, will face legal consequences.
Speaking at Saidpur Airport en route to the 16th founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, Nahid stated, "Several cases have been filed, and arrests have already been made. Those found to be involved after investigation will also face trial."
During the university’s anniversary event, Nahid accused defeated fascist forces of spreading false rumors on social media, urging the public not to trust misinformation circulating on platforms like Facebook.
Nahid also paid tribute to martyr Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University who died fighting for justice during the anti-discrimination movement. "We owe our independence to the blood of martyrs like Abu Sayed," Nahid remarked, vowing that the government would continue to support the university and preserve Sayed’s legacy.
The advisor expressed gratitude for being invited to the anniversary, pledging to uphold the ideals for which Abu Sayed and others sacrificed their lives. He emphasized that Sayed will always be remembered as a leader among the student community.
The anniversary celebrations included the inauguration of a Tk3 crore gate, a rally with students, and a discussion session. Nahid also honored Abu Sayed’s father, Mokbul Hossain, by giving him a crest on behalf of the university.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shawkat Ali, alongside teachers and students, were present at the event.
