Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N)— Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, announced that the government will begin strict monitoring from November 1 to enforce a ban on polythene bags across the country.
Speaking at a briefing on Sunday about the ban on polythene and promoting jute wrapping for products, Rizwana Hasan emphasized that no polythene bags will be allowed in supershops. "Strict monitoring will be implemented in all markets starting November 1 to eliminate the use of polybags," she said.
She added that the government is also taking strong measures to halt polythene production, with public health being a major concern behind this initiative.
The adviser stressed the need for greater awareness to ensure compliance with the regulations set in 2010 and 2013 regarding the use of polythene. She also highlighted the importance of curbing single-use plastics to protect the environment.
While no raids have been conducted on supershops yet, she urged businesses to voluntarily stop distributing polybags in the interest of the nation. The official campaign against polythene bags will begin next month, aiming to foster the mandatory use of environmentally friendly jute products.
