Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N)- The committee established to oversee harassment cases involving journalists has requested that those facing false charges submit relevant details and evidence to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for resolution.
In a press release following its inaugural meeting, the committee requested journalists to send information in PDF format to the email address [email protected]. Required details include the case serial number, title, names of implicated journalists, their media affiliations and addresses, case number and date, location of filing, a brief incident description, current case status, the accused's status (arrested or on bail), and any comments or recommendations from editors.
The release further noted that proof of media association must be included with each submission. It specified that the term "journalist" aligns with the definition provided in Section 2(g) of the Press Council Act, 1974, and for audio-visual and digital media, applicable regulations or the Press Council Act’s definition will apply if needed.
It also clarified that cases related to journalists' private liabilities, beyond their professional scope, should not be submitted. This eight-member committee, led by Mohammad Altaf-Ul-Alam, additional secretary of the Ministry, was initially formed on October 7 to address harassment cases faced by journalists.
