Dhaka, Nov 04 (V7N)- Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, has dismissed rumors circulating on social media that the interim government plans to lease out Saint Martin’s Island. Speaking to reporters at a Dhaka hotel event on Monday, she clarified that these claims are unfounded and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving the country’s only coral island and managing its tourism responsibly.

Hasan stressed the importance of shifting public perspectives to value wildlife rights alongside human rights, noting the urgent need for increased environmental awareness. She also highlighted the concerning condition of the nation’s elephant corridors.

In response to a query, Rizwana confirmed the government's dual focus on safeguarding Saint Martin’s Island and supporting sustainable tourism. For November, day-trip-only access will be enforced for tourists, while December and January will allow up to 2,000 overnight visitors per day.
