Dhaka, Nov 25 (V7N)- Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to reforming labor laws to align with global standards, aiming to attract more foreign buyers and strengthen its position in international markets.

Dr. Yunus made the statement during a meeting with a US labor and brand delegation at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.

"We are determined to reform our labor laws to meet international standards. This is my personal commitment," said Dr. Yunus. He further highlighted that the interim government has appointed a special envoy to spearhead labor law reforms and is addressing concerns raised by local and international labor rights organizations, the International Labor Organization (ILO), and Western nations.

The visiting delegation was led by Thea Mei Lee, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury at the US Department of Labor, and Kelly Fay Rodriguez, Special Representative for International Labor Affairs. Both officials expressed support for Bangladesh’s efforts to enhance worker conditions and labor rights.

Kelly Fay Rodriguez praised the government’s progress, stating, "What the government has accomplished in the labor sector over the last three and a half months is amazing."

These reforms are expected to attract greater interest from global brands and improve working conditions in factories, enhancing Bangladesh's reputation in the competitive garment and footwear sectors. The government’s proactive approach aims to address international labor rights concerns and promote sustainable trade relations.

Bangladesh has been under international scrutiny for its labor practices, particularly in the garment sector. Efforts to improve working conditions and comply with international labor standards have gained momentum under the interim government's leadership.
