Dhaka, Nov 29 (V7N)— Professor Asif Nazrul, legal advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, has strongly criticized India for expressing undue concern over the situation of minorities in Bangladesh, pointing out that India itself is grappling with numerous atrocities against its Muslim minority population.
In a post on his Facebook page on Friday, Nazrul called India’s stance “condemnable and objectionable,” condemning the hypocrisy of a country that fails to address its own internal issues while pointing fingers at others.
Quoting a Voice of America Bangla survey, Nazrul highlighted that 64.1 percent of people in Bangladesh believe the interim government has provided greater security to the country’s minorities than the previous Awami League government. He also praised the people of Bangladesh for their continued efforts to ensure the safety of minorities, including during the recent Durga Puja celebrations, when student organizations, madrasas, and political parties worked together to safeguard religious minorities.
Nazrul further noted the restraint shown by Muslims in Bangladesh, particularly in response to the brutal killing of lawyer Saiful Islam in Chittagong, despite the provocation.
He sharply criticized India for ignoring its own human rights violations against its Muslim citizens, pointing out that there have been countless atrocities committed on Indian soil, without any remorse or action to address the systemic issues faced by Indian Muslims. He called this duplicity on India's part deeply troubling.
Nazrul concluded by calling out India's hypocrisy in focusing on Bangladesh’s internal affairs while turning a blind eye to the ongoing injustices in its own country.
