Dhaka, Nov 30 (V7N) — A passenger arriving from Malaysia was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for smuggling 12 gold bars, each weighing 1 kg, with a total weight of 12 kg. The incident occurred around midnight on Friday.

Al Amin, Joint Commissioner of the Airport Customs Authority, confirmed the arrest and detailed the operation. Flight MH 196 from Malaysia landed at 11:45 PM, and the customs team identified the suspect, a Malaysian national, based on intelligence. After passing through an archway scanner, the hidden gold bars were discovered on his person.

The customs authority seized the gold and is preparing to file a case against the detained individual, Al Amin stated. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details about the smuggling attempt.

Gold smuggling cases like this continue to challenge law enforcement authorities at Bangladesh's airports, reflecting the need for stringent measures to combat illegal activities.
