LAKSHMIPUR, Mar 14, (V7N) – Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee on Saturday assured that the ongoing river embankment project in Kamalnagar upazila will be implemented with full transparency and without corruption.

The minister made the remarks after inspecting the Matabbarhat riverbank protection project, which is being carried out at a cost of Tk 3,100 crore. Construction of the 37‑kilometer embankment is underway in Ramgati and Kamalnagar upazilas.

Anee criticized past governments, alleging that funds meant for embankment projects were looted and smuggled abroad. He said departmental action would be taken against officials involved in corruption, noting that mismanagement had deprived local residents of protection against erosion.

Highlighting the impact of inadequate embankments, he said: “Residents of these riverine areas have lost homes and land, and crop production has been affected. Protecting them from the erosion of the Meghna River is our top priority.”

The minister added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government is committed to community development. He instructed contractors to complete the work quickly so progress is visible before the next monsoon, and urged vigilance to maintain quality.

The event was attended by Whip ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan, MP Md. Shahadat Hossain Selim, BNP district leaders, and other local representatives.
