Dhaka, Dec 11 (V7N) – Dhaka today emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Bangladesh to maintain the country’s development momentum.

This call was made during a briefing by the UNCT, led by UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis, to Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin at the foreign ministry. According to a press release, the meeting also discussed collaborative efforts in response to the ongoing Rohingya crisis.

During the discussion, the foreign secretary highlighted Bangladesh’s growing role as a global leader in multilateralism. The UNCT delegation included heads and representatives from various UN agencies active in Bangladesh, such as UNHCR, IOM, UN Women, UNFPA, UNESCO, UNICEF, FAO, UNIDO, UNODC, IFAD, UNOPS, WHO, WFP, UNDP, and ILO.

The briefing covered strategic priority areas under which the UNCT is working in Bangladesh, including Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development, Equitable Human Development, Sustainable, Healthy, and Resilient Environments, Inclusive Governance, and Gender Equality.
