Cairo, Dec 18 (V7N) — Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has arrived in Cairo, Egypt, to participate in the D-8 Summit, an annual gathering of eight developing nations.

Dr. Yunus landed at Cairo International Airport at 11 a.m. local time on Wednesday, where he was warmly received by Egypt's Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Shimi. The two held a brief meeting at the airport following the formal welcome.

The Chief Adviser departed from Dhaka on Tuesday night aboard an Emirates Airlines flight, which left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:20 a.m. He is on a two-day state visit to attend the summit scheduled for December 19.

The D-8, formally known as the Developing-8 or Organization for Economic Cooperation, was founded in 1997 to foster economic collaboration among its member nations, which include Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. Together, these countries represent approximately 14% of the global population.

The summit is expected to address key issues of economic development, trade cooperation, and sustainable growth among the member states.

Dr. Yunus is accompanied by senior officials from his office, with Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder confirming the details of the visit.

The Chief Adviser’s participation underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening ties with other D-8 member nations and fostering regional development initiatives.
