Dhaka, Dec 25 (V7N) — On the occasion of Christmas, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, exchanged greetings with representatives of the Christian community, emphasizing the universal message of peace in all religions. The event took place on Tuesday at the State Guest House Jamuna.
Expressing his heartfelt wishes for the Christian community, Dr. Yunus said, "I am very happy to meet you today. We want religious unity. We do not want the words minority and majority. In this country, we are all one family, and we will all live together — this is our dream. Everyone must come forward to realize this dream."
He highlighted the importance of internalizing the message of peace within oneself, stating, "Our identity as humans comes first, followed by our religion. Every religion carries a message of peace, and we must embrace that message. If we instill this peace in ourselves, we will see it reflected in others. This understanding will eliminate differences and pave the way for a harmonious society where our children can enjoy a beautiful future."
The event, moderated by Religious Advisor Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain, included speeches from prominent Christian leaders such as Archbishop Bijoy N. D'Cruz, Bishop Philip P. Adhikari, and Nirmal Rosario. They expressed their gratitude to the interim government and their hopes for a democratic, secular, and harmonious Bangladesh under Dr. Yunus's leadership.
Archbishop Bijoy N. D'Cruz commended Dr. Yunus for his wisdom, honesty, and widespread trust, saying, "Under your leadership, may Bangladesh become a nation of love, compassion, humanity, and forgiveness. The Christian community stands with you as Bangladesh moves forward."
The Christian leaders also thanked the government for its generous donation of 25 million taka to the Christian Religious Welfare Trust, which has been distributed to churches nationwide. As a gesture of appreciation, they presented Dr. Yunus with a Bible.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Legal Advisor Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, and Environment, Forest and Climate Change Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan.
The Chief Advisor concluded the event by reaffirming his commitment to fostering communal harmony and unity among all religious communities in Bangladesh.
