Sylhet, Dec 28 (V7N) — Highlighting allegations of negligence and resource wastage during the previous government's tenure, Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar pledged zero tolerance for corruption in the sector.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the Institute of Livestock Science and Technology in Tilagarh, Sylhet, on Saturday, she said, "The Awami League government committed massive irregularities in the livestock sector, which the current government is working to reform. There have been financial irregularities and waste of resources in many places. From now on, strict measures will be implemented to stop these practices."

Farida Akhtar also addressed the challenges posed by annual floods in Sylhet, which cause significant harm to both people and livestock. To mitigate these issues, she announced plans to establish special shelters for animals in flood-prone areas.

Additionally, she stated that the government has initiated measures to ensure an adequate food supply for animals during floods, reflecting a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness for livestock.

The inauguration of the new institute marks a step towards improving education and research in livestock science, reinforcing the government’s commitment to reform and progress in this sector.
