Dhaka, Jan 05 (V7N) — Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has vowed to restore voters' rights and end their long-standing deprivation. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a training program for voter update data collectors and supervisors at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon, Dhaka, he emphasised the Election Commission's commitment to ensuring fair elections.

"People have been deprived of the right to vote for so long, and we want to remove that deprivation. The Election Commission is committed to this goal," said the CEC. He stressed the need for reforms to meet public expectations and modernise electoral processes. "The reform commissions were created to change the past through reforms. We have to come out of old thinking," he added.

The CEC also hinted at potential changes to laws and regulations based on the recommendations of the Election Reform Commission.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah highlighted the public's renewed expectations, saying, "People want to vote. No one should exploit the voter list update process for personal gain. We must address issues such as dead voters, fake voters, and new voter registrations with equal diligence."

Echoing the call for transparency, Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar pledged to address past election irregularities. "We will take all necessary measures to prevent rigging and ensure fairness. Any irregularities, negligence, or opacity in updating the voter list will not be tolerated," he asserted.

The training program aims to equip data collectors and supervisors with the skills to conduct a transparent and efficient voter update process, laying the groundwork for fair elections in the future.
