Dhaka, February 3, 2025 (V7N) – The Bangladesh government has formed an 11-member task force to determine necessary actions regarding foreign nationals living illegally in the country. This was announced in a notification from the Immigration Branch of the Security Services Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday.
Composition of the Task Force
The task force will be led by:
- Convener: Additional Secretary (Security and Immigration), Security Services Department
- Member Secretary: Joint Secretary (Immigration-2 Branch), Security Services Department
Other members include representatives from:
- Office of the Principal Advisor (Director General)
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Director General, Consular Affairs)
- Public Security Division (Joint Secretary, Political-1 Branch)
- Special Branch (SB) of Police (Deputy Inspector General, Immigration)
- Department of Immigration and Passports (Additional Director General, Passport, Visa & Immigration)
- Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) (Director, Operations Wing)
- NGO Affairs Bureau (Director)
- National Security Intelligence Directorate (NSI) (Director, External Affairs & Liaison Wing)
- Directorate General of Defense Intelligence (Director, External Affairs & Liaison Bureau)
Mandate and Responsibilities
- The task force will coordinate and provide recommendations on handling illegal foreign nationals.
- It can issue instructions for taking necessary actions.
- The committee is empowered to invite relevant individuals to meetings and co-opt members if required.
The notification emphasizes that the task force will take effect immediately.
