Dhaka, February 5 (V7N) – Mahfuz Alam, advisor to the interim government, has called for a strategic shift from destructive activities to constructive nation-building efforts. In a late-night post on his verified Facebook page at 2:30 AM on Wednesday, Mahfuz emphasized the need to counter regional and global hegemony through institutional development and intellectual empowerment rather than focusing on symbolic acts like demolishing statues.
Key Points from Mahfuz Alam's Statement
- "We are confronting regional and global hegemony, not just some statues or buildings," Mahfuz stated. He urged people to move away from demolition projects and instead focus on building counter-hegemonic thoughts, strength, and institutions.
- He described Sheikh Hasina's regime and the Awami League as mere extensions of regional hegemony, emphasizing that true power lies in creating a realistic state, developing skilled human resources, and strengthening state institutions.
- "After the destruction, there is an opportunity to build," Mahfuz wrote, stressing that continuous destruction signals a bleak future. He assured that construction projects and the implementation of the Reform Commission’s proposals will begin soon.
Ongoing Reforms and Future Plans
Mahfuz also mentioned that the rehabilitation of families affected by the July massacre and the prosecution of those responsible are underway and will gain momentum this month.
- "Anger, resentment, hatred—these are negative energies," he stated. "After the coup, we had a chance to turn this into positive energy, and that opportunity is not yet lost."
- He called on citizens to channel their creative energies into the long-term democratic struggle against hegemonic forces, which he believes will span at least a decade.
A Call to Action
Mahfuz concluded his message with a vision for the future, urging people to focus on building strong state plans, institutions, and skilled human resources.
- "History has given us an opportunity. We must win this time, and the only way to win is by building," he wrote.
- Ending on a hopeful note, he prayed, "May Allah grant us farsight."
Mahfuz’s remarks reflect a growing emphasis within the interim government on institutional reforms and nation-building as key strategies to combat both internal and external political challenges.
