Abu Dhabi, Mar 14 (V7N) — Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have arrested 10 individuals from different countries, including a Bangladeshi national, for allegedly publishing misleading videos of missile attacks on social media amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
According to a report by the state-run Emirates News Agency on Saturday (March 14), the country’s Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi has ordered an expedited trial for the accused.
Authorities said the suspects shared false and misleading video clips of missile attacks, which could threaten national security and social stability.
Investigations revealed that the videos contained footage of air defense system responses, missiles falling to the ground, and scenes of public gatherings, along with fake explosions and attack scenarios created using artificial intelligence (AI). Some of the clips also attempted to manipulate emotions by involving children to portray a sense of security threat.
In addition, certain videos falsely claimed that military installations inside the UAE had been destroyed or portrayed foreign incidents as if they had occurred within the country.
The Public Prosecution has begun interrogating the suspects and ordered that they remain in custody. Authorities warned that any attempt to spread false information or undermine national security using digital media or modern technology will not be tolerated.
According to prosecutors, the detainees include **one citizen each from Egypt, Philippines, Vietnam, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Nepal and two citizens from India.
