Dhaka, Feb 09 (V7N) – Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former Chief Election Commissioner and Supreme Court Justice Mohammad Abdur Rauf.
In a statement issued on Sunday (February 9), Professor Yunus prayed for the eternal peace of Justice Rauf's soul and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Reflecting on Justice Rauf's pivotal role in restoring democracy in Bangladesh following the fall of military dictator Hussain Muhammad Ershad on December 6, 1990, Yunus remarked, "Justice Rauf will remain a shining example on Bangladesh's democratic journey. He will live on in the hearts of the people through his enduring contributions."
Professor Yunus also emphasized Justice Rauf's role as a steadfast pillar of civil society, lauding his tireless efforts toward suffrage, reforms, and democracy. "The nation will remember his dedication with deep respect," Yunus added.
