Dhaka, March 1 (V7N) – The prices of essential commodities have reached a tolerable level compared to last year, and the government is committed to ensuring price stability throughout the month of Ramadan, said Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor.
Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Saturday (March 1), Alam credited collective efforts for the improved market situation. He assured that if the supply remains steady, prices may further decrease. Special monitoring is in place, particularly on soybean oil prices, and various initiatives have been taken to ease public hardship during Ramadan.
Political Developments and Upcoming Elections
Regarding the upcoming elections, Alam confirmed that the election roadmap has been provided. While the BNP is demanding a specific election date, he expressed optimism that dialogue between political parties and the Consensus Reforms Commission would begin soon.
Clarification on Bus Requisition in Pirojpur
Alam also addressed the controversy surrounding the requisition of five buses in Pirojpur. He clarified that the interim government had no role in the matter and that the District Commissioner (DC) acted upon the request of anti-discrimination movement representatives and families of the injured. The DC did not allocate any government funds for the requisition, he added.
Response to Pabna Robbery Reports
Deputy Press Secretary Azad Majumder responded to concerns over a reported mass robbery in Pabna, stating that media coverage had exaggerated the incident. He clarified that the robbery involved a microbus, a CNG, and a motorcycle, rather than a large-scale attack. He urged the media to provide accurate information, stating that cooperation with authorities ensures quicker action.
The government continues to monitor market conditions, political developments, and security concerns, aiming to maintain stability and public confidence throughout Ramadan.
