Dhaka, March 12 (V7N) – Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Syed Manjur Elahi, Chairman of Apex Group and former Advisor to the caretaker government.

In a condolence message on Tuesday, Dr. Yunus described Syed Manjur Elahi as a "unique personality in the entrepreneurial world of Bangladesh" and a "patriotic businessman" who significantly contributed to the country's leather industry. His dedicated efforts helped Apex Footwear emerge as Bangladesh's leading shoe exporter.

Syed Manjur Elahi served as a minister in the caretaker government in 1996, overseeing the Ministries of Communications, Shipping, Civil Aviation and Tourism, Posts and Telecommunications, and Housing and Public Works. In 2001, he was appointed Advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture, Shipping, Fisheries, and Livestock.

Dr. Yunus praised his leadership skills, highlighting his tenure as the President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Dhaka, and his role as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD).

"I deeply mourn the death of Syed Manjur Elahi, a respected and patriotic industrialist. I pray for the eternal peace of his soul and extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family," Dr. Yunus stated.
