Dhaka, Mar 24 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed concern over the health of former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal, who suffered a heart attack during a Premier League match at BKSP.
On behalf of the Chief Advisor, Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder contacted Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury to inquire about Tamim’s condition.
Nizam Uddin Chowdhury confirmed that after suffering a heart attack, Tamim was rushed to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar, where an angiogram was performed.
"The BCB is in regular contact with Tamim's doctors and is ready to provide all necessary assistance for his treatment. The Chief Advisor will also be regularly updated on Tamim’s health condition," said Nizam Uddin.
In the afternoon, Dr. Rajib Hasan, media director of the hospital, informed the press that Tamim had undergone angioplasty and stenting after a blocked artery was detected.
"His condition was critical when he arrived. The stenting was done smoothly by Dr. Moniruzzaman Maruf, and the blockage is now completely cleared. However, he remains under observation," said Dr. Hasan.
Tamim was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier League match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP in Savar. After winning the toss, he felt severe chest pain and was initially taken to a local hospital. Feeling slightly better, he returned to the field but collapsed again, prompting an emergency decision to hospitalize him.
Mohammedan team sources revealed that authorities had even arranged a helicopter to transfer Tamim to Dhaka, but due to his deteriorating condition, he was admitted to the nearest hospital instead.
Tamim remains under observation, and further updates on his condition are expected soon.
