Dhaka, Mar 26 (V7N) – On the occasion of Bangladesh's 54th Independence Day, top government officials and dignitaries paid tribute at the National Memorial in Savar to honor the martyrs of the Liberation War.
At 5:50 AM, President Mohammad Sahabuddin placed a floral wreath at the National Memorial, marking the official commencement of the day’s ceremonies. Shortly afterward, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus arrived and exchanged greetings with dignitaries and guests.
Following this, Chief Justice and Supreme Court judges offered their tribute, followed by families of freedom fighters, members of the Advisory Council, and foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka.
Speaking to reporters after the tribute, Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan emphasized that true independence is yet to be realized due to 16 years of misrule by the fascist government.
"The real foundation for protecting the spirit of 1971 was laid in 2024," he said.
Meanwhile, Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed spoke about building a new Bangladesh, ensuring prosperity and happiness in the spirit of the Liberation War.
Forest and Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan urged all political parties to reach a national consensus, stating that political stability is crucial for the country’s progress.
After the official tributes, the National Memorial was opened to the general public, allowing citizens to pay their respects to the heroes of 1971.
