Dhaka, Mar 29 (V7N) -During the meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping shared that he had tasted Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits and praised the taste of both fruits, according to Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
Shafiqul Alam noted that President Xi’s praise could help Bangladesh export its mangoes and jackfruits to China.
He added that Bangladesh expects to export these two fruits to China on a larger scale in the coming months.
China has shown interest in importing mangoes, guavas, and jackfruits from Bangladesh, as mentioned by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen in a recent meeting with Prof Yunus in Dhaka.
The chief adviser had previously requested the Chinese government to import these fruits from Bangladesh.
At a recent press briefing in Dhaka, Shafiqul Alam emphasized that the Chinese government is very interested in importing these three types of fruits, which would open new opportunities for Bangladesh’s exports to China.
The press secretary said: “We will be able to export jackfruit on a large scale. Additionally, an opportunity has also been created for large-scale mango exports, as the Chinese people enjoy Bangladeshi mangoes.”
He also mentioned that to maintain export standards, the World Food Programme (WFP) will provide $4 million and technical assistance to support the export of Bangladesh’s fruits.
