Dhaka, Apr 01 (V7N) – Bangladesh has dispatched the second batch of emergency relief and medical aid to Myanmar following the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on March 28. The relief was sent on Tuesday morning (April 1) via three transport aircraft of the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Air Force, following the instructions of Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.

A special rescue and medical team consisting of 55 personnel, including rescue experts from the three armed forces, doctors from the Fire Service and Civil Defense, Army medical professionals, and civilian doctors, has been deployed to assist the victims. Additionally, 37 crew members accompanied the team on the three aircraft.

The rescue team has carried essential survival equipment, including food, medical supplies, communication devices, and cooking utensils, ensuring they can operate effectively in the disaster-affected areas.

The second batch of relief materials included:

  • 8 tons of dry food

  • 2.5 tons of purified water

  • 4 tons of essential medicines

  • 1 ton of healthcare supplies

  • 1.5 tons of relief tents

Earlier, on Sunday (March 30), Bangladesh had sent the first batch of emergency relief, including medicines, dry food, tents, and a medical team led by the Bangladesh Armed Forces.

The 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar at 12:20 PM (local time) on March 28, with its epicenter located 16 kilometers north of Sagaing, approximately 100 kilometers north of Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar. The tremors were also strongly felt in Bangladesh, China, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Bangladesh’s prompt humanitarian response highlights its commitment to regional cooperation and disaster relief efforts, providing much-needed assistance to its neighboring country during this crisis.
