Dhaka, Apr 02 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has dismissed concerns regarding militancy in Bangladesh, stating that there is no problem related to extremism in the country. His remarks come in response to a recent New York Times report suggesting that Bangladesh presents an opportunity for extremism.

Speaking to journalists after visiting various police stations in the capital on Wednesday afternoon to exchange Eid greetings, he refrained from commenting directly on reports circulating on social media. However, he reassured that the country remains stable in terms of security.

Addressing the overall law and order situation, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury acknowledged the transitional phase after the government change on August 5. He noted that order is gradually being restored and emphasized that all concerned authorities are working together to ensure stability.

Regarding allegations that innocent individuals are being wrongly accused of crimes during the anti-discrimination movement, he admitted that such incidents have occurred. He noted that some people have been named in cases despite being uninvolved, while others were outside the country at the time of the alleged offenses.

To address this issue, he assured that proper investigations are being conducted, beyond routine police inquiries. A separate committee has also been formed to review such cases, ensuring that no innocent person is punished while ensuring that actual criminals do not escape justice.
