Dhaka, Apr 09 (V7N) – The Bangla New Year 2025 will be celebrated with a focus on spreading the rich diversity of national and ethnic festivals, according to Cultural Affairs Advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui. He made this announcement during a press briefing on Wednesday (April 9) at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
Farooqui emphasized that this year's Mangal Shobhajatra, a traditional procession marking the Bengali New Year, will feature special arrangements by the Bangladesh Band Musicians' Association (Bamba) to raise awareness about the Palestinian genocide. The band members and musicians will be allowed to participate with the Palestinian flag, signaling solidarity with the cause.
The advisor also highlighted that in addition to the Bengali population, 27 ethnic communities will actively participate in the celebrations, donning their traditional attire and showcasing their unique cultural elements. These groups, hailing from both the hills and plains, will be adding their distinct flavors to the festivities.
As part of the New Year celebrations, a Sadhusang will be held in 12 districts across the country on Chaitra Sankranti. The popular Chhayanaut program will also take place, continuing the cultural tradition of welcoming the New Year.
Farooqui further reassured the public that this year’s Mangal Shobhajatra would differ from previous ones, where it was sometimes mistaken for a police or RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) procession. This year, he assured, the event would be purely celebratory and cultural in nature.
The advisor also confirmed that Islamic parties have not raised any concerns regarding the upcoming celebrations, suggesting a smooth and inclusive atmosphere for the festivities.
This year’s Bangla New Year celebrations are poised to reflect the country’s rich multicultural heritage, fostering unity among the diverse ethnic communities while honoring the global causes of peace and justice.
