Dhaka, Apr 19 (V7N)-  Customers will now receive 10 Mbps internet speed in the Tk 500 broadband package, effective from Saturday (April 19). Previously, the speed under this package was 5 Mbps.

The announcement was made by Imdadul Haque, President of the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), during a seminar titled “Internet Services: Problems, Opportunities and Actions” organized by TRNB, a telecom reporters' organization.

Imdadul Haque also said that the association aims to increase the minimum broadband speed to 20 Mbps, which would require a license upgrade.

During the seminar, internet service providers put forward several demands to improve the sector and attract further investment. These include:

  • Fixing the license tenure at 10 years to ensure long-term investment security.

  • Providing easier access to loans for infrastructure development.

  • Suspending the Social Obligation Fund (SOF) contribution for three years to facilitate network upgrades.

  • Simplifying the licensing process and regulations for ISPs.

Industry leaders emphasized that these reforms are essential to modernize the country’s digital infrastructure and expand high-speed internet access nationwide.
