Dhaka, Apr 24 (V7N)- Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has stated that the Election Commission (EC) is focused on completing tasks within its constitutional authority, while political issues related to upcoming elections will be handled by the consensus commission.

He made these comments to reporters on Thursday (April 24) following a meeting with Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Riley, at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The CEC said the EC is actively preparing for the upcoming elections by addressing the administrative and technical matters that fall under its jurisdiction. “We are working on what needs to be done immediately and is within our power,” he said.

Regarding political dialogue and broader electoral reforms, he clarified, “Political issues are not within the Election Commission's domain. The consensus commission will take the necessary initiatives in this regard.”

During the meeting, Australian High Commissioner Susan Riley expressed her country's support for free, fair, and participatory elections in Bangladesh. She also reaffirmed Australia’s willingness to assist Bangladesh in any area concerning the election process.

“Bangladesh is taking steps toward electoral reform, and we are committed to supporting that journey,” Riley said. She also expressed interest in continuing cooperation with the EC to help ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.

This engagement comes as part of ongoing efforts to build international confidence in the upcoming elections and foster greater collaboration between Bangladesh and its development partners.
