High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh, Haznah Md Hashim, reaffirmed Malaysia's backing for Bangladesh's aspiration to become a "Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN."

In a meeting with Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they discussed various areas of mutual interest aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

Acknowledging the strong ties between Bangladesh and Malaysia, they explored avenues to enhance cooperation, including collaboration in human resources, defense, initiation of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, and the expansion of trade and investment opportunities in Special Economic Zones.

Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud also urged Malaysia to play an active role bilaterally and within ASEAN to facilitate the sustainable repatriation of Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals to Myanmar.

Both officials affirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, emphasizing the mutual desire to promote greater cooperation and shared benefits between Bangladesh and Malaysia.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner also extended congratulations to Foreign Minister Hasan on her appointment during their inaugural courtesy exchange.
