Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman has said that although the accused in the recent Khagrachhari rape case has been arrested, certain groups are still attempting to escalate the law and order situation in the hills.

Speaking at a media briefing at the RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar on Tuesday afternoon, the RAB chief noted: “Efforts are being made to turn a trivial incident into a larger conflict in the hills. The local administration and security forces are working relentlessly to stabilize the situation.”

On the issue of looted weapons and the release of accused criminals on bail, he said that the presence of unrecovered arms remains a serious challenge ahead of the national elections. He assured that operations will continue to recover these weapons and arrest the suspects.

The RAB Director General further stated that the force has taken special measures to strengthen law and order in the run-up to the elections. He added that RAB has been placed on highest alert to ensure the smooth and peaceful celebration of Durga Puja nationwide.
