Dhaka, Oct 05 (V7N) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has directed all field-level tax zones to strengthen intelligence and investigative activities to enhance revenue collection and prevent tax evasion. The directive was issued through a statement on Sunday morning.
The instruction, issued by the office of the Member (Tax Audit, Intelligence and Investigation) of the NBR, details the formation of intelligence and investigation teams in each tax zone, the working methods of these teams, and the procedures for recommending and approving recovery actions.
According to the statement, when intelligence indicates tax evasion, irregularities in registers, or reports of abnormal tax-free income, the relevant team will initiate an investigation. Findings and data must be reported to the Investigating and Intelligence Committee (IIC). Legal action for revenue recovery requires approval from the concerned Tax Commissioner, and monthly reports on these activities are to be submitted in a prescribed format to the NBR by the 10th of the following month.
The NBR expressed hope that these measures will recover evaded revenue, discourage tax evasion, and promote a fair tax culture in the country.
