Dhaka, Oct 22 (V7N) — Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that only those capable of maintaining peace and discipline during the upcoming national election will be appointed to key administrative positions. He emphasized that the reshuffle of public administration will be under his direct supervision to ensure a fair, neutral, and peaceful election process.
Speaking at a meeting with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders on Tuesday evening (October 21) at the state guesthouse Jamuna, Dr. Yunus reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and neutrality in the electoral process. His remarks were later confirmed in a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
During the discussion, the Chief Adviser informed the BNP delegation that as the Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Public Administration, he would personally oversee all transfers, postings, and appointments before the election. District Commissioners (DCs) and other key officials will be selected from multiple “fit lists” based on merit and integrity, ensuring they are placed appropriately before the polls.
BNP leaders urged the Chief Adviser to prevent controversial officials, particularly those who previously oversaw elections under the Awami League government, from participating in any electoral duties. They also called for maintaining strict neutrality in the forthcoming administrative reshuffle.
Present at the meeting were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed, and advisers Wahiduddin Mahmud (Planning), Professor Asif Nazrul (Law), and Adilur Rahman Khan (Industry).
The dialogue marks a key step in the Chief Adviser’s ongoing consultations with major political parties aimed at restoring public confidence ahead of Bangladesh’s next general election.
