Dhaka, Nov 20 (V7N) — Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul announced that the referendum law will be enacted within the next three to four working days. He made the statement at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday (November 20).
Dr. Nazrul also confirmed that the Advisory Council has given final approval to the establishment of a separate Supreme Court Secretariat to ensure the independence of the judiciary. This new secretariat will handle all matters concerning lower court judges, preventing government interference. The secretariat will become effective once it is formally formed.
He further mentioned that the government is sending letters to India to request the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal.
Commenting on a historic judicial development, Dr. Nazrul said that the caretaker government system has been restored. “Several fair elections were previously conducted through this system. Although a former Chief Justice had declared it illegal and the Awami League annulled it through the Fifteenth Amendment, today’s verdict overturns that declaration and reinstates the caretaker government system,” he added.
