Dhaka, Nov 21 (V7N) — Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized that the journey of a new Bangladesh will begin with the February elections, urging all to ensure the polls are joyful and festive. He made the remarks during the Armed Forces Day celebration at Senakunj on Friday.

Professor Yunus highlighted the pivotal role of the Bangladesh Armed Forces in the country's democratic transition. “The upcoming elections are crucial for democracy. Through this election, we will embark on the path of a new Bangladesh,” he said.

Recalling history, he noted, “The birth of the Bangladesh Armed Forces was on the battlefield of 1971. On November 21, 1971, the army, navy, and air force jointly fought against Pakistani forces. The struggle began on the night of March 25, and without victory, the lives of these brave soldiers and their families would have been in peril.”

Addressing the armed forces, Dr. Yunus said, “In addition to protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty, you have always worked alongside the people in national reconstruction and disaster management. Your professionalism and patriotism during the 2024 student uprising and ongoing national development are exemplary. I trust that the armed forces will continue to uphold this tradition and ensure the upcoming elections are conducted smoothly and professionally.”

He also spoke on national security, saying, “As a peace-loving nation, we believe in respectful coexistence with friendly countries. Yet we must remain vigilant and prepared to protect our sovereignty. Modernization, training, and technological upgrades of the army, navy, and air force are ongoing to meet global standards.”

At the start of his speech, the Chief Advisor expressed condolences for casualties in the recent earthquake and remembered the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July 24 uprising.
