Dhaka, Nov 26 (V7N) — Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain has said that India has not yet responded to Dhaka’s letter requesting the return of Sheikh Hasina, following her death sentence in a case of crimes against humanity.
He revealed the information at a briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (November 26).
“I do not know when Delhi will reply to the letter seeking Sheikh Hasina’s return,” he said, adding that Dhaka does not expect such a quick response.
Speaking on the upcoming national elections, the advisor said there is no pressure from Western countries to ensure an inclusive election. Regarding India’s possible participation, he noted that the decision to invite observers would be made by the Election Commission.
Towhid Hossain also stated that Bangladesh’s decision not to purchase Airbus aircraft from France at this moment would not negatively impact relations with Europe.
Notably, Dhaka had previously written to Delhi multiple times seeking Sheikh Hasina’s return before the verdict in the crimes against humanity case, but none of those letters received a response. A fresh letter was sent after the verdict, for which Dhaka is still awaiting India’s reply.
