Dhaka, Nov 27 (V7N) — Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, advisor to the interim government, indicated on Thursday that along with the student advisors, other government advisors may also participate in the upcoming 13th National Assembly election. He made the remarks after inaugurating the online upazila-based public library at the Secretariat.

While confirming his own participation, Asif did not specify which constituency or party he would contest from. He emphasized that there is no legal restriction preventing an interim government advisor from participating in elections. However, he stressed that resigning from government duties before contesting is necessary to avoid conflicts of interest. “From a policy perspective, anyone participating in the election should resign before entering the election process. I am preparing in the same way,” he said.

When asked whether he would resign before the election schedule is announced, Asif replied, “The date and schedule have not been finalized yet. Once everything is finalized, these will be announced gradually. It is better not to comment on political matters now.”

Regarding the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation against the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) administrator, the advisor stated, “If there is any irregularity, the ACC can investigate. If they find anything, they can report it, and the ministry will take necessary action accordingly.”

Asif also highlighted the educational initiative linked to his visit. He inaugurated online public libraries in 44 upazilas of 11 districts, a project completed in about five months at a total cost of 23.32 crore taka. Each library, built at 5.3 million taka, is intended to promote education and reduce inequality, providing resources to build an educated, humane, and creative generation.

The advisor said the project will expand to all remaining upazilas within a year, reinforcing the government’s focus on accessible education and literacy development.
