Dhaka, Dec 03 (V7N) – The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has instructed primary assistant teachers who have been on strike to immediately withdraw their boycott of annual examinations and return to work. The ministry warned that teachers involved in anti-discipline activities could face action under the Service Act, Code of Conduct, and Criminal Law.
The directive, issued in a notification signed by Senior Information Officer Abdullah Shibli Sadiq on Wednesday afternoon, emphasized that the government has already taken steps to address teachers’ demands. These include salary upgrades to grade 11 and two other pending demands, which have been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration. The Mass Education Advisor has personally discussed the matters with the Finance Advisor and the Chairman of the Pay Commission, and a letter regarding the salary upgrade of 364 assistant teachers has been submitted to the Pay Commission.
The ministry noted that despite these efforts, some teacher organizations continued to obstruct exams, even attacking and physically humiliating colleagues who wished to conduct them. The notification stressed that such actions endanger students’ education and constitute violations of government service law, the code of conduct, and may also be considered criminal offenses.
The ministry urged all assistant teachers to resume their duties immediately to ensure the uninterrupted progress of education for young students.
