Dhaka, Dec 10 (V7N)- Youth and Sports, Cooperatives, Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan and Information Advisor Mahfuz Alam have resigned from their positions in the interim government, the Chief Advisor's office confirmed Wednesday. A formal announcement is expected during a press conference at Jamuna at 6:15 pm today.

Earlier in the afternoon, Asif Mahmud addressed his resignation at a press conference, stating, “It is not my authority to announce this; it will be made public by the press wing of the Honorable Chief Advisor. We will have to wait a little for that.”

He added that he plans to contest in the upcoming elections but did not clarify the party or constituency. Though he initially indicated he would vote from Dhaka, he recently changed his voter registration to Dhaka-10 from Comilla.

Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan joined the interim government as a student representative on August 8 last year, shortly after the fall of the Awami League government. He initially served as Labor Advisor and later held the portfolios of Youth and Sports, Local Government, and Cooperatives.

Mahfuz Alam, meanwhile, first joined as a Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor with the status of advisor. Following Nahid Islam’s resignation to become the convener of the NCP, Mahfuz Alam assumed the role of Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The resignations come as the interim government prepares for the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections and the associated referendum, marking a significant development in the political landscape.
