Dhaka, Dec 22 (V7N)- Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that significant progress has been made in the investigation into the murder of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, but the whereabouts of the main mastermind, Faisal, remain unknown.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday (December 22), the advisor said, “If I knew where Faisal was, I would have caught him. We do not know whether he is in the country or has gone abroad.”

He added that Faisal’s father, mother, wife, brother-in-law, and the motorcycle driver involved in the attack have been arrested, and the broker gang connected to the case has been apprehended at the border. So far, a total of 6,998 people have been arrested under ‘Devil Hunt Phase 2’, he said, emphasizing that instructions have been issued to arrest more terrorists and criminals.

The Home Affairs Advisor also confirmed that gunmen have been deployed for the security of editors of Prothom Alo and Daily Star, with additional protection at their residences. About 20 gunmen have been assigned to individuals who expressed concern for their safety. He further assured that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will also receive adequate security upon his return to the country.

Responding to rumors of his resignation, Chowdhury stated, “If I had resigned, I would not be here.”
