Dhaka, Dec 23 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Pranay Verma over concerns regarding the security situation at Bangladesh diplomatic missions in India.

According to diplomatic sources, Pranay Verma was summoned to the Foreign Ministry at 10:00 am on Tuesday in connection with recent protests and attempted attacks on Bangladesh missions in several Indian cities, including New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Agartala and Guwahati.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam conveyed strong condemnation and formal protest against the activities of extremist groups that allegedly targeted Bangladesh’s diplomatic establishments, including the High Commission.

During the meeting, Bangladesh expressed deep concern over the adequacy of security arrangements provided by the Indian authorities to protect Bangladesh missions and diplomatic personnel. Dhaka emphasized that ensuring the safety of foreign missions is the responsibility of the host country under international diplomatic norms.

This marks the sixth time in recent months that the Indian High Commissioner has been summoned by Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry.

Meanwhile, citing security and diplomatic concerns, Bangladesh has suspended visa operations for Indian nationals at its missions in Delhi, Assam and Siliguri.
