Manikganj, Dec 26 (V7N)- Ferry services on the Paturia–Daulatdia river route have been completely suspended due to dense fog, causing disruption to passenger and vehicle movement. The suspension came into effect from midnight on Thursday (December 25) to prevent potential accidents.

According to authorities, the fog density became so severe that nearby vessels and riverbanks were not clearly visible from the ferry bridges, prompting safety concerns. As a precautionary measure, ferry operations were halted until visibility improves.

As a result of the suspension, five ferries carrying passengers and vehicles remain anchored mid-river, while several others are stuck at different points at the Paturia and Daulatdia ghats. Long queues of vehicles have also formed on both sides of the river crossing.

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Aricha Area Office, said the decision to suspend ferry operations was taken by ferry masters due to the heightened risk of accidents. Officials added that services will be resumed as soon as the fog clears and visibility returns to normal.

Passengers and drivers have been advised to remain patient and follow instructions from port and ferry authorities until operations resume.
