Dhaka, Jan 03 (V7N)- Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has said that the national elections are currently the top priority, and the DMP is working impartially to ensure a level playing field for all candidates.
He made the remarks while speaking at the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) held at Segunbagicha on Saturday (January 3) afternoon.
The DMP Commissioner said a major reshuffle within the police force has already been carried out as part of preparations to maintain neutrality and law and order during the election period. He added that security arrangements for candidates are being taken seriously.
“Considering security risks, many candidates have already been provided with armed guards. If any other candidate requests security in the future due to potential threats, necessary arrangements will be made,” he said.
Referring to the Hadi murder case, the DMP Commissioner said that extensive investigations are underway. He emphasized that the police are working with the highest priority to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
At the event, crests and cheques were distributed among journalists who received awards for best reporting in various categories for 2025. This year, Rashed Nizam, special correspondent of Jamuna Television, received the Best Reporting Award for his investigative report on human trafficking.
The meeting was attended by senior journalists, media professionals, and members of CRAB.
