Dhaka, Jan 21 (V7N) — Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul has said that the government has taken an initiative to introduce an e-bail system through digital means, replacing the conventional bail filing process, in order to modernize the judicial system and reduce the suffering of justice seekers.
He said the introduction of e-bail would significantly reduce harassment for litigants, prison authorities, and lawyers, while also saving time and money.
Asif Nazrul made the remarks while speaking at the virtual inauguration ceremony of the e-bail system for Manikganj, Bandarban, Meherpur, Joypurhat, Moulvibazar, Panchagarh, Jhalokati, and Sherpur districts. The event was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs at the Secretariat on Wednesday (January 21) morning. The e-bail system was first launched in Narayanganj district as part of the pilot phase.
The Legal Advisor said the e-bail system would be rolled out across the country within the next six months. He added that before the upcoming elections, the interim government plans to inaugurate the system in several more districts within 20 to 22 days, while the next government will be responsible for full implementation.
He further stated that the next government would not discontinue the initiative unless there is a politically problematic decision.
Highlighting the role of e-bail in curbing corruption, Asif Nazrul said that despite being granted bail, many detainees currently remain in jail due to procedural delays. The e-bail system will remove such obstacles, thereby reducing public suffering and limiting opportunities for corruption.
In addition, the Legal Advisor informed that a project has been initiated to introduce digital land registration to ease public suffering. Under this initiative, land-related criminal cases will also be filed online.
