The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) intervened on Thursday and successfully freed Nizam Uddin, the manager of Sonali Bank's Ruma branch, who had been kidnapped, from the Bathel Para neighborhood of Bandarban. This was a dramatic turn of events. The special force's prompt action was highlighted by ASP Imran Khan of the RAB headquarters media wing, who confirmed the rescue.

Despite the successful rescue operation, no member of the armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) responsible for the abduction could be apprehended. Currently, the rescued manager is being transported to Bandarban, with potential plans to transfer him to the RAB headquarters in Dhaka later tonight, as disclosed by Didarul Alam, acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Ruma.

Reports indicate that Nizam Uddin's health remains intact, reassuring authorities and his family of his well-being. However, the ordeal faced by the manager and his family involved a ransom demand of Tk 15 lakh from the KNF. This demand was communicated to Uddin's wife, Nazmul Nahar, a teacher at Bandarban Cantonment Public School and College, who promptly informed the media after receiving a chilling phone call from the separatist group.

The abduction occurred on Tuesday, April 2, when KNF operatives attempted to loot Tk 1.5 crore from the vault of the Ruma branch. Failing in their attempt, they resorted to kidnapping the bank manager, setting off a chain of events that shook the region. In a further display of brazen criminality, the group executed robberies at both Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank branches in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban the following day, exacerbating the security situation in the area.

The successful rescue operation underscores the crucial role of law enforcement agencies like RAB in maintaining law and order and combating criminal elements that threaten the safety and stability of communities. As the investigation into the incident unfolds, authorities remain vigilant in ensuring the safety and security of citizens, reaffirming their commitment to upholding justice and eradicating criminality.
